How to dust away the old resentment and hurts by Erika Sanchez
Hello Brave Hearted Steppers,
Letting go of old resentment and hurts can be a challenging process, but it is possible with time and effort.
Resentment is defined as a feeling of anger or displeasure about someone or something unfair. Most people have struggled with feelings of resentment at some point in their life. The Bible talks about resentment in many places over the course of the Old Testament and the New Testament. Throughout the Bible, resentment is never painted in a good light. Resentment and bitterness are closely related to one another. When a person harbors resentment in their heart, they have bitter feelings toward that particular person, circumstance, or situation. A person can experience resentment and bitterness for several reasons.
God speaks in Ephesians 4:30-32 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
Understand that holding onto resentment will not change the past or bring resolution. It's important to gain perspective and recognize that you deserve peace and happiness.
In Ecclesiastes 3 speaks about there being a time for everything. Verse 6 says there is “a time to keep, and a time to cast away. There is a time to get rid of what we no longer use. It can be a good thing to discard or to recycle.
In order to dust away we need to start with forgiveness, is not about condoning or forgetting the hurtful actions, but rather about releasing yourself from the negative emotions associated with the encounter. Consider forgiving the person who hurt you, or even forgiving yourself if needed. Remember that forgiveness is a process and may take time.
It’s not easy to do but it can be done.
That's why we ask God when we go through to help us release old resentment and hurts. It’s the first step of healing!
We have to give it all to him, but in Psalms 147:3 God specifically says He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
God never intends us to hold onto any old resentments or hurts. By holding on to this is like holding on to poison and will slowly kill your spirit. That's what the enemy wants you to believe and keep you stagnant. Only because he knows once you’re past the resentments and hurt, God will be doing mighty things in our lives.
Paul speaks in Philippians 3:13-14 (interpretation) and says us to strive for the prize of heaven - which means letting go of our past, forgiving ourselves and others for what's been done, and moving forward in our lives with God as our guide.
Release all negative energy: Find healthy outlets to release any built-up negative energy. This can include writing in a journal, engaging in physical activity, or practicing relaxation techniques like deep breathing and prayer.
Remember, healing from past hurts takes time and patience. Be gentle with yourself and allow yourself to heal at your own pace.
