Sip and Savor by Lissette Camacho
Hello Brave Hearted Steppers!
Can I just tell you that the first thing that came to mind with this month’s topic was-comfort-peace and tranquility.
When I think about the Lord and His goodness, I can’t help but to feel peace and I’m so grateful it’s not my peace that I rest upon, but I rest upon His peace.
God says in His Word that He gives us a peace that surpasses all understanding.
“Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 NLT
That His peace is not like the world’s peace and this is so true.
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 NKJV
As believers, when we’re experiencing any kind of trials or tribulations God encourages us to guard our heart.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23 NIV
In the process He keeps our mind.
“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3 NKJV
The Holy Spirit reminds us of the Word of God and all these things together-comforts us.
“The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and make you remember all that I have told you." John 14:26 GNBUK
It allows us to experience joy because we know whom we serve. We know His Word and we believe in His promises.
“Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10 NIV
When we rest in the peace of God we get to savor His grace and experience His mercy. We get to savor of a restful mind and heart-not because we don’t have problems but because we know He’s in our problems and He promises to deliver us from them all.
“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” Psalm 34:19 ESV
He gives us a resting place in Him. That even if life is happening-we know Him. Therefore we can rest in His presence and take refuge in Him.
I know there has been many times in my life that I have experienced God’s comfort and what I love about this-is the mere fact-that in His comfort you get to experience the Father of the trinity. His presence becomes a safe haven that you never want to leave.
You know, there has been times that when I go into my secret place to pray, I feel connected to the Father as if I’m prostrated directly at His feet.
In these moments, I imagine the Lord is caressing my hair and telling me-daughter-everything is going to be alright and I in return-believe Him. Why? Because scripture encourages me in knowing that He is the God who sees me.
“She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”" Genesis 16:13 NIV
Something about trusting God brings about tranquility. Brings about peace. Brings about reassurance. Knowing all of this allows me to be vulnerable in His presence. It awakens a desire in me to pray more because I want to be able to savor the goodness of Jesus.
Knowing God, His attributes and character can only happen one day at a time or in this scenario-one sip at a time. So whatever you need God to do or be for the season that your in trust Him for it one prayer at a time.
Scripture encourages us to delight ourselves in the Lord. Let that delight bring forth a hunger for more of Him and less of us. Let that delight allow us to experience His love, mercy, joy and kindness. God is good and He is so worth savoring.
So, today I challenge you Brave Hearted Steppers-to put into practice Psalm 34:8. I challenge you to spend time in the Lord. I challenge you to ask God to allow you to savor His goodness. To allow the Lord to reveal His love for you each new day as you make the daily choice in taking refuge in Him in Jesus name. Amen.
“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!” Psalm 34:8 ESV
